Kove's 350 Rally: A New Road-Oriented Spin-Off
Kove, a company known for its Dakar Rally bikes, is expanding its lineup with a new road-oriented spin-off: the 350 Rally. This smaller-capacity bike is a departure from the company's existing models, featuring a more road-biased design and a new family look that will spread across Kove's lineup.
The 350 Rally's engine is essentially the same single-cylinder design used on the 450 Rally, but with a capacity drop. The frame and swingarm are also derived from the existing bike, but wrapped in new bodywork that gives it a more road-biased appearance. The 'Rally' style comes from a large fuel tank that extends down into the bike's belly, along with a near-vertical windscreen, which is a clear nod to the Dakar Rally.
One of the most notable changes is the new nose design with a stacked headlight setup flanked by wing-shaped DRLs, a departure from the twin, side-by-side lights seen on the existing 450 Dakar. The landscape-oriented TFT dash below a bracket that could be used to mount a GPS, along with a more accessible seat shape, further emphasizes the bike's road-oriented nature.
The 350 Rally also features road-legal lighting, a licence plate bracket, and side reflectors, indicating that it is a street model rather than a competition-oriented machine. The presence of a side stand further supports this notion.
The exhaust is rerouted compared to the 450, with the header pipe set high alongside the engine's cylinder head, feeding a high-mounted silencer under the seat. This new design is expected to be mirrored by several other Kove models in 2027.
In my opinion, Kove's decision to create a road-oriented spin-off of the 450 Rally is a strategic move to expand its customer appeal. The new design is more conventional-looking, which may make it more accessible to a wider audience. However, it's important to note that the 350 Rally still retains some Dakar Rally elements, such as the large fuel tank and near-vertical windscreen, which are a testament to Kove's racing heritage.
The 350 Rally's introduction raises a deeper question: how will it impact the company's existing models? Will it cannibalize sales of the 450 Rally, or will it attract new customers to the brand? Only time will tell, but one thing is certain: Kove is making a bold move with this new road-oriented spin-off.
